Joshua L. Chan, MD, FACS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory University and is the Surgical Director of the ECMO Program, Surgical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Program at ESJH, and Program Director of the Thoracic Transplantation & Mechanical Circulatory Support Fellowship. He is an adult cardiac surgeon with a primary clinical focus in heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and complex cardiac disease.
Dr. Chan received advanced fellowship training in thoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He previously completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Stanford University and general surgery residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Chan completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health where he has published on xenotransplantation, stem cell therapy, and myocardial revascularization.
In addition to his clinical interests, Dr. Chan leads a basic science and translational laboratory. He is a recipient of the NIH-funded Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance (CTSA) KL2 award. His laboratory is focused on investigating the pathophysiology of transplant primary graft dysfunction and rejection using multi-omic analyses and optimizing transplant outcomes.
