About

As a radiation oncologist, Dr. Sudmeier treats patients with brain and spinal tumors at Emory University Hospital. (Clifton campus)

Dr. Sudmeier received her BA in biology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She earned her MD and her PhD in neuroscience from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. She completed an internship in internal medicine and a radiation oncology residency, where she was chief resident in her final year, at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. During residency training, she also completed a research fellowship in cancer immunology with Dr. Rafi Ahmed of the Emory Vaccine Center.

Dr. Sudmeier has been published in numerous scientific journals including Cell Reports Medicine, STAR Protocols, Current Treatment Options in Oncology, Translational Lung Cancer Research, and Disease Models and Mechanisms. She is an ad hoc reviewer for Journal of Immunotherapy of Cancer, Cancer Medicine, International Journal of Radiation Biology, and Neurosurgery.

The goal of Dr. Sudmeiers work is to develop improved treatments for brain metastases and primary brain tumors, with a focus on immunotherapies. Her research program aims to understand the interplay between the unique immune microenvironment of the brain and the immune cells infiltrating tumors growing in the brain and to determine how the biology of these immune cells is affected by different cancer treatments.

She was very kind and respected my preference to not sugar coat things and seemed to be honest while taking into consideration my concerns and desire to be proactive and not just reactive since I have had many issues in the past with radiation.
