Shannon Walker Ike, MD

Shannon Walker Ike, MD is a cardiologist dedicated to helping patients achieve their best cardiovascular health through a holistic, prevention-focused approach. She believes that “prevention is the best intervention” and integrates lifestyle strategies with evidence-based therapies to prevent and treat heart disease.

A native of Northern Virginia, Dr. Walker earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Princeton University and her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). She completed her Internal Medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a Cardiovascular Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). As a Chan Zuckerberg BioHub fellow, she earned an NIH T32 grant to study the genetic and environmental mechanisms underlying methamphetamine-associated heart failure.

Dr. Walker is passionate about education and mentorship, having earned multiple teaching awards throughout her training. She has also brought her clinical expertise to underserved communities both in the U.S. and abroad - including research in Uganda, clinical service in Mauritania, asylum evaluations for refugees with Physicians for Human Rights, and work in remote Native American hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She began her cardiology career at Grady Hospital before joining the Emory University Midtown cardiology team. Her clinical interests include preventive cardiology, women’s heart health, valvular heart disease, and cardio-obstetrics.
