About

Shelly Abramowicz obtained her dental degree and her MPH in 2002 from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Florida in 2008. After completing her training, she joined Boston Children's Hospital as a full time attending surgeon and became a faculty member of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

In 2009, Abramowicz received a three-year Faculty Educator Development Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation. The award funded her investigation of temporomandibular joints in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. In 2016, she received a research support grant from the American Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation. She was a first place poster winner at the 98th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and awarded the first Elaine A. Stuebner Scholarship by the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Most recently, she was awarded the Osteo Science Foundation Research Grant.

Abramowicz provides care to children with oral and maxillofacial surgery concerns at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory Clinic.

Her clinical and research specialties include pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, TMJ dysfunction in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, orthognathic surgery, maxillofacial trauma, benign maxillofacial pathology, and impacted teeth.

The meeting with Dr. A felt more casual than informative. She focused more on my son's sports and activities than on explaining the necessary steps for the procedure, such as whether he would need to be put to sleep during the extraction. We also learned that, despite having dental coverage, our insurance would be considered out of network because the clinic is affiliated with the hospital. As a result, we are currently seeking another oral surgeon

I was very happy with the nurses and staff. They were very communicative, they explained everything clearly. When I felt like my daughter's pain level was high, they took care of it immediately.

We saw the doctor for maybe 5 minutes after waiting 2 hours.

Terrible experience. Will most definitely be getting another opinion. She failed to acknowledge my son's diagnosis from CHOA, and seemed very disinterested in hearing his or my concerns. She came in the room explaining g that she thought wisdom teeth were the problem - my son had his removed years ago. She did not come into that room to diagnose; she came in to either plan for surgery or get us out. Terrible experience.

The resident did most of the work and took the information. She had it wrong so the after-visit notes were wrong. I had to message to get them corrected.

The provider did not examine the child but relied only on the examination by the resident/assistant. They did not seem concerned about our Childs problem. We left feeling underrated. The child is young, we were not told of any possible complications or what to do if the symptoms persist.

I met doctor in ER on Monday. ER didn't seem to have all that was needed to help me, but dental clinic did. I would highly recommend Emory dental clinic for emergency situations like I had.

The resident that we saw was absolutely amazing and kind, but Dr. Abramowitz was awful. Her bedside manner was terrible. She made us feel like we had wasted her time even though we had been sent based on a referral. I myself am a nurse and also in the medical field and so I get it that people are tired, but I would never bring my child back to this practice.

Didn't seem like she cared that her wisdom teeth are clearly pressing up against her back molars. Causing pain

Doctor was very gruff and off-putting. While she probably Is a skilled physician, her interpersonal skills are highly lacking. She seemed more interested in displaying her superior intellect than caring. I left this appointment feeling shaken and upset by the interaction.

So happy our orthodontist recommended Dr Abramowicz and her staff for this procedure. We are at ease as we go into this upcoming surgery!

Dr. Abramawicz was very disappointing. The doctor stopped in for only a minute and was rude and insulting to my daughter, not even a patient. She didn't even talk about my son's procedure. Only the resident talked to us about it and explain how it would proceed.

Despite telling the nurses and the resident and having the resident look at her tooth in question that chipped out they STILL removed an adult tooth . Very unhappy about that and not sure how it's going to impact her Louth later in life .

Very little information was given about the procedure and since there was no pre authorization, when I asked about insurance, I was told they didn't know anything about that and then they wanted to proceed with imaging and molds for a surgery that wouldn't be happening for at least 9 months on a growing child. The imaging would have needed to be redone before surgery and we received no assurance that it would be covered by insurance.
