About

Dr. Pearson serves is the Livingston Professor of Surgery, Executive Director of Emory Transplant Center, Director of Kidney Transplant Program, and Affiliate Scientist of Yerkes Primate Research Center. Together with his colleague, Dr. Christian Larsen, Dr. Pearson played a leading role in development of Belatacept, a new anti-rejection medication that protects kidney transplant function and improves long survival. In March 2010, Dr. Pearson, Dr. Larsen, and their colleagues published the data from two international phase III clinical trials in the American Journal of Transplantation and in June 2011, the FDA approved Belatacept for the prevention of graft rejection after kidney transplants.
In addition to being an eminent scientist, Dr. Pearson is also a highly accomplished kidney and pancrease transplant surgeon and has been involved in such milestones as the performance of Georgia's first islet transplant.

Dr. Peterson was very helpful and informative about my condition. I really enjoyed my visit with him.

Dr. Pearson did a great job explaining to me and my wife the benefits/risks of kidney transplant surgery and did so in a way that was not purely "clinical" but relatable to non-medically trained persons. He listened to our questions and took his time answering all of our questions, ensuring we were satisfied with the answers. Me and my wife were very impressed with Dr. Pearson's approach to providing care.

Dr. Pearson showed little to no compassion and gave no real suggestions regarding a kidney transplant other than me finding a living donor. He informed me that due to my age (71), it would be pointless to put me on a kidney transplant waiting list.
