Dr. Styblo is a surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of breast cancer, and has been a faculty member of the Emory Department of Surgery since 1988. She is the Georgia State Representative for the Association of Women Surgeons, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of numerous medical societies including the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Her awards include American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Cancer Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award, Top Doctors in Atlanta, Best Doctors in America, America's Top Surgeons, Patient's Choice Physician, and Most Compassionate Doctor.
Since joining Emory, Dr. Styblo has been active both locally and nationally in clinical and translational research. Of particular note are her research collaborations with the late Dr. John Bostwick in skin-sparing mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction, with Emory radiologist Dr. Naomi Alazraki in clinical trials to establish sentinel lymph node biopsy as a standard of care for axillary staging, and with Emory plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Albert Losken in the use of oncoplastic reduction to improve the outcome of patients having breast conserving therapy.
In 2014, Dr. Styblo was appointed chair of the Emory Integrated Cancer Network of Winship Cancer Institute, which linked cancer treatment providers and staff at Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital, and Emory Johns Creek Hospital. During the next year, she concentrated on achieving the required qualifications to be recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACS CoC) as an official integrated network cancer program, and in 2016, the ACS CoC granted the network full accreditation. She serves as a Network Physician Surveyor for the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
