The Emory Bariatric Center offers a customized nonsurgical weight loss and weight management program, Your Weigh. Your Weigh is a 16-week medically-supervised weight loss program that offers three meal plan options:

  1. Full Meal Replacement – following the full meal replacement weight loss plan, patients consume OPTIFAST® meal replacements (soups, bars or shakes) for approximately 12 weeks (may vary by individual), followed by a gradual transition back to food.
  2. Partial Meal Replacement – following the partial meal replacement weight loss plan, patients select 3 OPTIFAST® meal replacements per day and add in some of their own food and recipes. A typical day on the partial meal replacement plan would include a meal replacement for breakfast, morning snack, and afternoon snack, with a healthy lunch and dinner of reasonable portion size. Each meal plan will be tailored to your individual needs based on personalized body composition study.
  3. No Meal Replacement – following this meal plan, patients use their own food and recipes (no OPTIFAST® meal replacements are included) as guided by your weight loss physician and dietitian. Each meal plan will be tailored to the individual needs based on personalized body composition study.

Every weight loss meal plan in the Your Weigh program includes:

  • Initial and ongoing supervision by an Emory Bariatric Center physician
  • One-on-one consultations with our registered dietitian
  • Medical diagnostics (varies by meal plan)
  • Body composition studies throughout the program
  • Regular lifestyle education group meetings to keep you motivated and focused on your weight loss goals

Our comprehensive, nonsurgical weight loss program is designed to focus on factors affecting not just your weight, but overall health. Post-program support group attendance is critical for ongoing success after the 16 weeks “active” phase of the program is completed.

Your Weigh Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We will help you decide what plan is best, but the ultimate decision is left to you. The most successful plan will be one that fits your personal goals and lifestyle the best.

Weight loss will depend on your weight, meal plan you choose, age, gender, physical activity, baseline metabolic rate, medical history/medications, and commitment to make the necessary lifestyle changes.

The Your Weigh program currently takes place on Thursday evenings and Friday afternoons. Our group meetings begin at 6 p.m. on Thursdays and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays and last for one hour. Physician and/or nurse visits take place before the group meeting. Check-in for these visits begins approximately one and a half hours before the group begins and each participant is seen by the nurse and/or physician in the order in which you arrive.

The active phase is 16 weeks, with options to extend in 4 week blocks if medically stable. After the active phase, participants are strongly encouraged to continue attending lifestyle education groups indefinitely. Research indicates that those who continue attending support groups after completing a weight loss program are able to maintain their weight loss better than those who do not.

If it is necessary for you to miss a session, we will work with you to adjust visits, schedule permitting. We ask that you give us as much advance notice as possible. Unfortunately, we are not able to freeze your program for missed visits. If you anticipate missing several weeks, you may want to consider enrolling in the program at a later date.
