Knee Treatments

The board-certified specialists at the Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center in Atlanta have taken knee care to a new level. We are experts in the care of all things related to your knee. Our goal is to return you to your activity as quickly and safely as possible using both surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Some of the knee conditions our orthopedic doctors treat include:

ACL Reconstruction

An ACL reconstruction involves taking a tendon from somewhere else and using it as a graft to replace (or reconstruct) the torn ACL, providing the same knee stability as a real ACL. The tendon may come from either the patient undergoing surgery (an autograft tendon) or from a cadaver (an allograft tendon).

Arthroscopic Meniscal Repair

Arthroscopic meniscal repair uses minimally invasive surgery to repair tears in the meniscus, or the pads of cartilage in the knees that serve as shock absorbers between the femur and the tibia.

Cartilage Repair

Cartilage transplantation repairs damaged cartilage with replacement juvenile cartilage. Cartilage replacement is conducted by using a mix of donated cartilage and fibren glue (a common medium for biological repairs) formed into a patch of the appropriate size and shape, which is then inserted into the damaged area.

Coolief

COOLIEF* is a non-invasive, non-opioid treatment that targets the nerves in the knee that send pain signals to the brain. You may start feeling better – and moving more freely – within one to two weeks after the procedure. Relief from pain can last up to 12 months.

High Tibial Osteotomy

When one side of the knee becomes worn, resulting in a poorly aligned joint and often further damage to the worn side of the joint. High tibial osteotomy restores proper alignment to the knee through one of two techniques.

MPFL Reconstruction

Medial patella-femoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction is a procedure used to correct serious and recurring dislocation of the kneecap.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

PRP Therapy utilizes platelets from an athletes' own blood to rebuild a damaged tendon.

Revision Total Knee Replacement

Once you have a total knee replacement, it is possible for a variety of reasons for the implants to fail-usually after at least 10 or 15 years. If parts become loosened from the bone or the synthetic components wear out, your knee may become unstable or painful when you are involved in normal daily activities. In this case, you may need what is known as a revision surgery.

Total Knee Replacement

For patients whose cartilage is too worn, or whose bone structures are too damaged to respond to conservative measures, a total knee replacement (knee arthroplasty) may be the best treatment option.

Unicompartmental Knee Replacement

The unicompartmental knee replacement procedure is similar to that of a total knee replacement, but the implants used only cover the single compartment of the knee joint where there has been damage to the cartilage or bone.

Visco-Supplementation/Injections

Visco-supplementation is a joint fluid therapy that uses a solution made of highly purified sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronan or HA) as a non-surgical treatment for osteoarthritis (OA).
