Spiritual Health

The Spiritual Health department is guided by the following mission statement: We will strive to respond to the whole person with respect and compassion utilizing the best in ethically-centered practice, education and research.

Chaplains affirm the spirituality of each person, including those who profess no particular religious faith. Chaplains recognize that the inner spirit affects one’s perspective on life and one’s capacity to respond to life’s changes and crisis. The Spiritual Health Department is a component site for the Emory Spiritual Health Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program which is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. CPE intern and resident chaplains are integral parts of the clinical team at the Emory DeKalb Operating Unit hospitals.

At times of change or crisis, most people engage in a search for meaning that can bring them hope and healing. Chaplains are available to support patients and families during such times.

Chaplains:
  • Are available 24 hours a day, 7 days-a-week
  • Provide empathetic and compassionate presence,
  • Are trained in crisis intervention and grief support
  • Respect and support religious and cultural difference that impact care
  • Provide spiritual support for patients and their families
  • May refer to community clergy who are available to address specific religious/sacramental needs

Recognize a Nurse

Want to Thank Your Nurse? We are proud of our nurses and love to acknowledge when they’ve gone above and beyond to take care of our patients and we do so with the nationally recognized Daisy Award program. If you had an extraordinary experience with a nurse, we’d love to hear about it.

Nurses can be nominated and honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Each quarter, a nurse will be selected by the Daisy Award Committee for the extraordinary work that they do. The honoree will receive a special statue and certificate commending her or him for being an "Extraordinary Nurse." There will be a presentation given in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients and visitors. All nurses who are nominated will be given a Daisy pin to wear on their badge or lapel.
