The Emory Comprehensive Stroke Clinic is dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centered care for stroke survivors and individuals at risk for stroke. In the Emory Comprehensive Stroke Clinic, we address both ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke, focusing on improving outcomes through personalized treatment plans, advanced medical resources, cutting-edge research and multidisciplinary support.

Includes experienced vascular neurology physicians, neurosurgery physicians, neurointerventional physicians, physical medicine and rehab physicians, advanced practice providers, geriatricians, physical therapy, the neuropsychology team, experienced stroke nurses, medical assistants and patient care coordinators.

  • American Heart Association/American Stroke Association guidelines drive proactive strategies and tailored interventions to reduce the likelihood of strokes through the following:

    • Evaluation of individualized risk factors (atrial fibrillation, atherosclerotic disease, blood clotting disorders and inflammatory conditions)
    • Management of complex stroke conditions
    • Lifestyle modifications that include diet, exercise and stress reduction
    • Regular follow-up to track progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
    • Evaluation for endovascular and surgical interventions
    • Specialized Care for Geriatric Stroke Survivors: Addressing mobility, cognitive health and polypharmacy concerns in geriatric stroke survivors
    • Fall Risk Reduction: Assessments and home safety recommendations
    • Caregiver Education and Support: Tools and resources to assist families in providing optimal care
    • Physical Therapy Evaluation: Assessment of motor function, strength and mobility
    • Evaluation for vagal nerve stimulator (VNS) implant in enhancing post-stroke recovery
    • Use of medications to augment recovery and rehabilitation
    • Cognitive Function Assessment: Evaluation of memory, language, attention and executive functioning abilities
    • Cognitive Contributions to Treatment Planning: Identification of cognitive deficits that may interfere with daily life and provide recommendations to improve recovery and/or quality of life
    • Emotional and Behavioral Analysis: Screening for post-stroke depression, anxiety and personality changes. Support for managing frustration, mood swings or difficulty adjusting to life changes.
  • Eligible patients may have the opportunity to participate in innovative clinical research studies designed to advance stroke prevention and recovery.

Stroke Prevention Clinical Studies

The Emory Comprehensive Stroke Clinic participates in StrokeNet clinical trials as well as multiple other national NIH and industry-funded research aiming to optimize stroke patients’ care and improve their outcomes.
