About Dr. Heath
Jodi-Ann Heath, MD, received her medical degree from University of Medicine and Health Sciences St. Kitts in the Caribbean. She took her family medicine residency at Gwinnett Medical Center. Her specialty within family medicine is women’s health, and she treats women of all ages.
Welcoming cultural diversity
Dr. Heath grew up in the Caribbean and appreciates diversity among her patients. She has also traveled the world to understand other cultures and brings this perspective to her work with Emory patients. When meeting a patient, she often begins by asking about their background.
“I ask where their family is from as it helps me understand their culture, the foods they eat,” she says. “If they have diabetes, for example, I will have a better idea how to advise them on diet.”
Listening carefully and educating patients
Dr. Heath listens carefully to patients when they discuss symptoms or believe they know the diagnosis. “They may or may not be correct,” she says. “If a patient says, ‘I have bronchitis, I will say, ‘How do you know?’ I educate patients on symptoms and diseases and help clear up any misperceptions they may have.”
She listens closely and makes sure patients understand what they talked about during their appointment. “They should have all their questions answered when they leave.” If a patient has multiple health problems, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, she adds. “I suggest we take each problem, one at a time, whatever is most urgent or most bothersome.”
When patients are like family
Her connection with patients is most important, says Dr. Heath. “They should feel I have their best interests at heart. We can’t build that connection in just one visit, but starting with culturally understanding them, we will do it over time. I might have visited their native country, so we will have that connection. And if I haven’t, I’ll be very interested to learn about it from them.”
Because she grew up in the Caribbean, and now lives in the U.S., she is very aware of the challenges patients experience when they immigrate. “I can help them understand the cultural differences in the U.S., especially in the medical system, and help them adapt.”
She loves developing long-term relationships with patients, which is especially possible in primary care. “When I see them over many years, they become like family.”

Dr.Jodi-Ann Heath has been VERY instrumental in saving my life!! Me being a retired medical worker with 46 yrs under my belt, I had become a very hard headed patient. It's not that I knew everything I had simply worn blinders In regards to my own health. I knew WHAT to do, I just figured I'd get AROUND to It eventually.Dr. Heath is truly a VERY PATIENT DOCTOR to say the least!! She stayed on me like white on rice, untill I FINALLY openned my ears. On one of my follow up visits when she discussed my worst Blood sugar #s ever that indicated I could easily be receiving dialysis treatments in the very near future. It hit me like a lightning bolt! I am now on tract, eating healthier and maintaining my weight. THANK YOU DR. HEATH!! God put you on this earth and in this field to save HARDHEADS like me. Wear your crown proudly!!

Like I said earlier Dr Heath has excellent bedside courtesy. She asks me about my family each visit and remembers details on them. I'm not sure if she remembers or just writes notes on how to connect with patients but it is very much appreciated and welcoming.

Dr. Heath was amazing as always! In addition to being very thorough, she was very patient with me. She always makes sure that I understand everything that she does or is planning to do for me. If I have any questions, she doesn't mind answering them at all. She never rushes when she enters the room like most physicians. She takes her time with you and she's very sensitive and caring to your health concerns and needs. I love the way she thinks very hard about what's best for you as her patient to try to help you to feel better as best as possible. Dr. Heath has a very caring heart and it shows. I would highly recommend her to anyone that's seeking a great PCP such as herself. They will be highly satisfied just like me!
My PCP Dr Heath is by far the best PCP I have had and while I find the Emory process for billing and scheduling so frustrating, the only reason I have not taken my business elsewhere is because of my satisfaction with Dr Heath

The doctor was nice but didn't touch me or ask me to show her the movement that causes problems. She said to look for stretches on YouTube but didn't specify what kind of stretches to look for. I mentioned concerns about other body parts but she showed no interest in my other challenges. She was only interested in what I said I was coming in for. It was a very disappointing experience.

Dr Heath cares about Healthcare
She didn't listen because the clinical notes posted on my chart didn't accurately reflect my health concerns. Some of the things she wrote as negative she never asked me about. And it seems system populated too because a lot of the things that were on the notes were not checked for instance she didn't look in my ears or listen for bowel sounds. I send messages to her on MyChart about having her notes match our visit and also to provide the referrals. She put I declined a Imammogram when Initially I did but agreed to do it at same time as bone density. I really felt she didn't see me or hear me but was going through motions like on automatic. I will find another primary care doctor. But I would like my medical chart to reflect our visit and my health concerns. I have seen Dr Heath for years and she is sweet and friendly but this visit I felt unseen and unheard and still waiting on the referrals .
