Andrea Riner, MD, MPH is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of breast cancer and benign breast conditions. She is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care while incorporating shared decision making throughout each patient’s cancer journey. Dr. Riner is an attending physician and member of the multidisciplinary breast cancer team at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and provides care for patients with breast conditions at Emory University Midtown Hospital. Dr. Riner earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland and subsequently received a Master in Public Health degree in Epidemiology and Global Health from Boston University. She then earned her medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Florida, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies, received the Hugh A. Walters, MD Humanitarian Award, and earned a certificate in Precision Medicine. She completed her Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at The Ohio State University. Dr. Riner’s research focuses on surgical and oncologic capacity building in resource-constrained settings in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as prevention, surveillance and management of breast cancer-related lymphedema. She is an advocate for increasing representation of patients in clinical research and supporting women in medicine. She is also passionate about mentoring medical students and residents in research and career development. Dr. Riner has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, JAMA Surgery, and Annals of Surgical Oncology.
