Dr. Benz is not my usual OBGYN at Emory, so I can't deny I was a bit nervous. Especially since I tend to avoid male gynos. But I am so happy to report that I was SO welcomed and cared for during my visit. As an autistic patient, knowing what's in store during my visit incredibly grounding. But I've had doctors in the past who don't take the time to navigate my questions or concerns. With Dr. Benz, I didn't even have to ask for an explanation of my procedure-he just provided It first thing after introductions! I had many questions, and he answered all of them with ease, nuance, and compassion. He even made sure that my husband, who was there to accompany me, had his own questions answered. During the stressful procedure, Dr. Benz did everything to ensure my comfort and awareness-from striking up pleasant conversation, to letting me know what was happening, to playing music to ease the tension. My entire life, I've navigated the medical system as my own advocate thanks to my needs and neurodivergence. But Dr. Benz felt like an advocate himself, which was a true first for me. The staff and doctors at Emory OBGYN are all fantastic, but Dr. Benz went above and beyond for my care. Kudos to him!!!!
