Dr. Benjamin Jacob Hazen, MD, is a general and acute care surgeon and faculty instructor at Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2018 and subsequently completed his general surgery training at Emory University Hospital, where he now serves on the faculty.
In addition to his academic and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Hazen serves as an active-duty U.S. Air Force trauma surgeon with a Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST). His clinical interests center on the management of critically injured patients and the delivery of surgical care in austere and high-acuity environments.
Dr. Hazen's research focuses on advancing trauma and acute care surgery, with particular interests in hemorrhage control and the use of whole blood, minimally invasive approaches to trauma surgery, and strategies to optimize surgical resident education, autonomy, and preparedness. Through his clinical, military, academic, and research endeavors, he is committed to advancing trauma care while preparing the next generation of surgeons to deliver effective, evidence-based care in challenging environments.
