Dr. James P. Toner is a nationally renowned reproductive endocrinologist, fertility specialist, and medical educator. Board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the subspecialty of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI), Dr. Tonerhas practiced clinically since 1991, offering deep expertise across all facets of assisted reproductive technology (ART), including in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Dr. Toner earned his undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph’s College and received his MD and PhD degrees through the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and an REI fellowship at the Howard and Georgeanna Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia, the birthplace of US IVF. Following fellowship, Dr. Toner served on the Jones Institute faculty for ten years, conducting landmark studies on ovarian reserve, endometrial receptivity, and luteal support while training future leaders in the field.
An active researcher and academic leader, Dr. Toner has authored over 200 scientific publications and abstracts and delivered more than 250 lectures nationwide. His current research focuses on expanding access to fertility care through simpler, more cost-effective IVF paradigms, as well as refining clinical protocols in ovarian stimulation and embryo implantation.
Dr. Toner has held key leadership positions across national professional societies, including serving on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART). At Emory University, Dr. Toner provides compassionate, evidence-based care and mentors the next generation of REI fellows and reproductive health specialists.
