Jonathan Lans, MD, PhD, is an orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon who specializes in treating conditions of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow. His clinical interests include elbow trauma, peripheral nerve surgery, and reconstructive procedures to restore function after injury. He approaches care as a partnership, taking time to understand each patient’s goals and tailoring treatment accordingly. He emphasizes shared decision-making, considers nonoperative options when appropriate, and ensures patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and plan of care. Raised in Europe, Dr. Lans earned his medical degree from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He completed two years of surgical training in Germany before moving to Boston, where he joined the Hand and Upper Extremity Service at Massachusetts General Hospital and completed his PhD on improving outcomes for patients with upper extremity tumors. Dr. Lans completed his orthopaedic surgery residency through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program, followed by a Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Emory University and sees patients at Emory’s primary Orthopaedic Office at the Musculoskeletal Institute, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Outside of medicine, Dr. Lans enjoys spending time with his wife and son, traveling, staying active by playing golf and tennis.
