1. Where did you complete your undergraduate studies, medical school, internship, residency, and fellowship?
Answer: I completed my undergraduate studies at Morehouse College; medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine; residency at Emory University School of Medicine’s Family Medicine residency program; fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Northside Hospital Gwinnett.
2. Do you have any other notable training or certifications we should mention (e.g., robotic surgery, urogynecology, procedures)?
Answer: Sports Medicine Certified. Palpation guided knee, shoulder injections (I was trained in MSK ultrasound but there will not be an ultrasound available for me to use)
3. What are your particular areas of clinical interest?
Answer: Sports medicine, exercise physiology, lifestyle medicine, chronic disease management, adolescent medicine
4. What inspired you to become a physician?
Answer: My father, a family medicine physician in Los Angeles, inspired my dreams to become a physician. Out of my two other siblings, I was the only one who wanted to accompany my father while doing rounds in the hospital or seeing patients in his outpatient clinic. He was the one who showed me that a servant and advocate of the community leads with an open heart and compassion.
5. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
Answer: I enjoy building long-lasting relationships with patients and families and helping them understand their health status and healthcare goals. There is nothing more satisfying than standing side by side with a patient as they control their blood pressure, lower their A1c, or get back to their baseline exercise habits after debilitating joint or back pains.
6. What do you wish you could tell every patient, and why?
Answer: One thing that I wish I could tell every patient is that lifestyle modifications and forming healthier habits take time and consistency. Changing lifestyle habits can be daunting due to expectations that everything must change overnight, but with small but consistent steps, support from loved ones, transparency and encouragement from the medical team, a daunting task can turn into a positive experience. Also, the world of medicine can be very vulnerable, and it is an honor for me to walk through these vulnerabilities with patients.
7. Please share any research you have conducted in your area of expertise. (Publications will be listed separately in Kyruus.)
Answer: No research publications at this time
8. What is a fun fact about you?
Answer: A couple of fun facts about me is that I have a twin sister and I met Usher while roller skating at Cascade Skating Rink.
9. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
Answer: While not at work, I enjoy playing soccer and supporting my favorite teams in Tottenham Hotspur and LA Galaxy, exploring the Atlanta food scene, playing the guitar, and spending time with my fiance and two cats.
10. What area of Atlanta do you live in? Are you married or do you have children? (Please share only if you’re comfortable.)
Answer: Not comfortable sharing
11. What brought you to the Atlanta area?
Answer: I initially came to the Atlanta area for college and have been happy living here ever since.
