Matthew R. Kudelka, MD, PhD, MS, is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of cutaneous malignancies, including melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers. He is an attending physician on the cutaneous oncology team at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Dr. Kudelka is also a physician-scientist whose research integrates glycobiology and clinical oncology to investigate the role of glycosylation in cancer and develop novel therapeutics.
He is an assistant professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kudelka earned his MD and PhD from Emory University School of Medicine and completed a predoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He completed his internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, followed by a Master of Science in clinical and translational research and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Rockefeller University. Before joining Emory, he completed a fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
The goal of Dr. Kudelka's laboratory is to decode the glyco-code, uncovering how glycans regulate tissue function and how disruptions in these processes contribute to diseases such as cancer. His team develops and applies advanced technologies to study the functional glycome in vivo, integrating functional genomics, next-generation sequencing, ultrasound-guided microinjection, advanced microscopy, mass spectrometry, biochemical approaches, cell culture, mouse models and human subjects research.
