Dr Urman is amazing. She was able to diagnose my problem immediately (shingles, it wasn't that subtle) answered every question, took samples and got prescriptions set up, including contingencies for any number of scenarios. Super nice and friendly, efficient and effective. Great follow up.

Let me start by saying that in all my years of coming to Emory for my health concerns, there's not been a single provider who communicated to me like Dr. Nicole Urman. She could give a Master Class on patient and provider communication and patient-centered care. She patiently listened to understand and not respond. She took into how my other health issues might impact the one she was treating me for. Most providers have compartmentalized my care. Oh,and the fact that she knocked and waited for my response before entering the room was also another reason that I am impressed by her. She used culturally-appropriate language to describe my condition that demonstrated an understanding and concern. She also touched my body part, thoroughly assessing my condition. I've experienced an abundance of providers who primarily use tests to determine plan of care. They don't seem to value the classic art of physical examination. Or their physical exam is on the level of what toddlers do when they're pretending to be a doctor. Other reasons that I'm raving about Dr. Urman includes her body language eye contact, voice tone, and conversation checks to make sure I understood her. I think if more providers practicing clinical care using her approach, more of Emory patients who feel better, do better, and enjoy having Emory as their Healthcare provider. After all, what does it matter if you are using innovation at the frontline of care if the people at the frontline of your workplace are interested in delivering compassionate, personalized, whole-person care.
