Oluronke Alafe, MD, is an internist with Emory at Centerville Primary Care. She sees patients aged 18 years and older and has clinical interests in hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure and thyroid disease.
Dr. Alafe was born in the U.S. but spent much of her early life in Nigeria before returning to the states. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a doctor. However, she chose to get her undergraduate degree in nursing, and spent several years as a nurse, including at Emory Healthcare, before eventually beginning medical school. She believes the one-on-one care she provided as a nurse has helped hone her empathy, compassion and listening skills as a physician. She not only hears the words that patients share with her; she has developed a keen insight into hearing the meaning behind those words.
Dr. Alafe enjoys working with patients to investigate and address their medical concerns and help them through the healing process. She also provides information about preventive care, screenings and disease management, all with the goal of helping patients live their best lives. Having once worked as a bank teller, she developed an exceptional knack for attention to details. She brings that diligence and thoroughness to her work as a physician. She helps patients get the care they need and works to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks. Dr. Alafe is a member of the American College of Physicians.
Outside of work, Dr. Alafe enjoys singing, traveling internationally and cooking, especially ethnic dishes. She enjoys event planning and hosting friends. She also enjoys math and do-it-yourself projects. A mother of three boys, Dr. Alafe strongly embraces her Christian faith.
