Dr. Hanson is a proud native Georgian, hailing from Toccoa, GA. He attended Auburn University for undergraduate studies, majoring in biomedical sciences. He completed medical school at Emory University School of Medicine where he was elected to serve as class president and was awarded the Papageorge Award for Outstanding Leadership. He completed internal medicine residency at Harvard University (Massachusetts General Hospital).
He then returned home to Georgia for cardiovascular disease fellowship at Emory. He completed specialized training in cardiac imaging including echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and cardiac CTA. He believes this broad imaging training is crucial to formulating a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan for patients in the modern era of cardiology. He practices general cardiology and cardiovascular imaging at Emory University Hospital Midtown. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine.
In his spare time he enjoys an active lifestyle alongside his wife, Mackenzie. They can often be found racing each other down the Beltline or walking the neighborhood on a nice day.
His golden rule as a physician is “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. When asked, he says “When faced with clinical choices I ask myself - how would I want myself, my mother, or my wife treated if they were in my patient’s shoes? That will always lead you right in the care of the patient.”
