Shannon Marissa Gavin, OD

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Dr. Shannon Gavin earned a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2025 from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, where she was honored as the class valedictorian. She gained clinical experience through multiple externships, including Bascom Palmer Eye Hospital in Miami, Perkins School for the Blind in Boston, White River Junction VA Hospital in Vermont, and various community health centers around Boston, serving a wide range of pediatric and adult patients.
In 2021, Dr. Gavin earned a B.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University, where she conducted medical research focusing on topics ranging from neuroplasticity to blindness, graduating summa cum laude.
Dr. Gavin recently completed a residency program in Cornea/Contact Lenses and Ocular Disease at Emory Eye Center, where she treated a variety of complex cornea, glaucoma, retina, neuro-ophthalmic, and post-operative cataract surgery cases at Emory Eye Center and Grady Memorial Hospital.
She has special interest working with the pediatric population and was thrilled to join the Emory team in 2026 and to continue to serve the Atlanta population. When she’s not in clinic, she enjoys hiking and exploring Atlanta’s music and food culture.
