With facilities based throughout metro Atlanta, the Emory Human Performance Institute will collaborate with existing hubs at Stanford University, the Salk Institute, UC San Diego, the University of Kansas, the University of Oregon and the Women’s Health, Sports & Performance Institute to translate scientific discoveries into practical tools for athletes, clinicians and the broader public.
Each Innovation Hub brings a unique and complementary area of focus, with research and learnings shared across the Alliance network. The Emory Human Performance Institute is a nationally recognized center for injury prevention research in sport. Its expertise in biomechanics and AI-driven analytics in elite athletes will inform injury prevention strategies across all levels of play, with a particular emphasis on reaching younger populations.
Myer is internationally recognized for his leadership in athletic injury biomechanics, particularly in the science of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury prevention. His work has consistently bridged laboratory biomechanics and on-field application, with recent efforts in virtual reality and advanced movement screening advancing early identification of athletes at risk of injury.
Myer spoke at the Alliance’s 2025 Female Athlete Research Meeting about using virtual reality in neuromuscular training to help reduce ACL injury risk in female athletes.
"This represents a pivotal and transformative moment for the Alliance," says Scott Delp, PhD, director of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance at Stanford University. "Adding an Innovation Hub at Emory will enhance the Alliance’s capabilities in biomechanics and applied human performance science. Dr. Myer’s research and leadership provide an unparalleled opportunity to integrate his team’s cutting-edge science into the Alliance.”
“Joining the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is an extraordinary opportunity to amplify the impact of our work at the Emory Human Performance Institute," says Myer. "By joining forces with other national leaders, we can enable groundbreaking advancements in injury prevention, performance optimization, and athlete health—not just for professional athletes, but for athletes at every level of sport.”
About the Emory Human Performance Institute
The Emory Human Performance Institute is a nationally recognized research center dedicated to advancing injury prevention and human performance science. Its interdisciplinary team operates across integrated labs and programs spanning sports performance, orthopaedic biomechanics, motor neuroimaging, musculoskeletal imaging and immersive technologies, all working in concert to move scientific discoveries out of the laboratory and into real-world practice.
About the Alliance
The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is dedicated to discovering biological principles to optimize human performance and catalyze innovations in human health for all. Almost all of what we know about health comes from the study of disease. Our scientific collaboration takes the opposite approach: we are studying peak performance, with the goal of enabling all people to achieve optimal health and well-being. By comprehensively studying athletes of various ages, genders, ethnicities, abilities and disciplines, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is trailblazing new possibilities.
