Specialty Pharmacy

What is a Specialty Pharmacy?

If you’ve been referred to Emory’s Specialty Pharmacy, it’s because your doctor wants you to get expert support for a complex or long-term condition.

Specialty medications often require expert handling, close monitoring or help with insurance approvals—and that’s exactly what we’re here for. Our team will guide you every step of the way, making sure you understand your medication, how to take it safely and what to expect during treatment.

Your Specialty Pharmacy Team

Emory Specialty Pharmacy has skilled staff who work together to provide you with the best care. Our staff includes:

  • Clinical Pharmacy Specialist: This is a board-certified, specialty-trained clinical pharmacist who works with you and your doctor. They monitor your medications and teach you about them. They also answer your questions.
  • Medication Access Specialist: This person works with you, your doctor and your insurance company. They complete prior authorizations for your new medication. They’ll also help if your insurance company requires using their preferred pharmacy.
  • Specialty Pharmacist: They provide pre- and final-verification to make sure you get the right medication.
  • Specialty Pharmacy Technician: They fill your medication and verify your pick-up or delivery method.

You can call our team at any time with questions. We have a licensed pharmacist available 24/7 to help with emergency medication needs.
