Why Choose Emory Healthcare

When you choose Emory Healthcare for pharmacy services, you’re choosing a team that puts your safety, comfort and recovery first.

What makes Emory different is our centralized pharmacy model. Unlike most hospitals that separate pharmacy services by department, our pharmacists are deeply connected with your full care team—including your doctors and nurses—so communication is clear and care is coordinated.

This means fewer delays, fewer medication issues and more time focused on helping you heal.

Convenient Pharmacy Services

We offer a wide range of pharmacy services to meet your medication needs. Our licensed pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians are ready to help you in these settings:

Patient Safety Tips
  • Keep an updated and accurate list of your current medications. This list should include all prescription medications from all doctors, and any medication you take over the counter without a prescription.

Bring this list with you to your doctor appointments. Remember to update this list any time changes are made including changes to doses of medication, discontinuation of medication or additional medications.

  • Tips for ensuring you take your medication on time:

    • Use a weekly pillbox that you refill at the beginning of every week. You can get different color pillboxes for your morning and evening medications.
    • Set a reminder in your smart phone. You can set alarms in your phone for the same time every day so you can remember to take medications with specific time requirements.

    • Keep a daily routine. Place your medication in the same visible place every day to add it to your daily routines.

    • Ask for help. If you have a loved one or caregiver living with you or helping you manage your health and appointments, they may also be a partner in ensuring you take your medications.

    • Enroll in our Patient Care Program. As a patient of our specialty pharmacy program, we monitor your medications and progress through a disease-specific patient management program. This program is designed to provide benefits such as managing side effects, increasing adherence to drug therapies, and overall improvement of your health. The service is provided to you at no cost, and your participation is voluntary. Ask your pharmacy about enrolling.
  • Educating yourself on your medications and your disease is a very important part of receiving the best care. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for any other educational resources specific to your condition.

Potential Questions to Ask Your Pharmacist

    • What is my medication supposed to do?
    • How and when do I take it?
    • For how long should I take it?
    • Should I avoid alcohol or any foods?
    • Can I take other drugs with my medication?
    • Should I expect any side effects?
    • What should I do if I forget to take my medication or if I take it incorrectly?
    • Is it safe to become pregnant or breastfeed while taking this medication?
    • How should I store my medication and how long can I keep it?
  • If you have an adverse reaction to your medication, you should contact your pharmacy or your prescribing physician. If it is a serious or life-threatening event, call 911 or have someone drive you to your local emergency room.
  • Keep all hazardous materials, liquids and medications out of the reach of children. Know your local poison control number or dial  800-222-1222  if a poisoning or suspected poisoning occurs.
  • If you are on an injectable medication, we will send you a sharps container to place all needles, syringes and other sharp objects.

Please hold on to the original white and red box this comes in, as it has a pre-paid USPS return label for the container to be sent off for proper destruction. Please do not send back to any Emory pharmacies.

You may also check the Safe Needle Disposal website for additional information.

  • If your medication is recalled, we will contact you, with further instructions, as directed by the FDA or drug manufacturer.
  • In the event of a disaster in your area, please contact our pharmacy to instruct us on how to deliver your medication. This will ensure your therapy is not interrupted.
  • We want you to be completely satisfied with the care we provide. If you have any issues with your medication, the services rendered, or any other issues related to your order, please contact us directly and speak to one of our staff members.

Patients and caregivers have the right to voice complaints and/or recommendations to the pharmacy. Patients and caregivers can do so by phone, fax, writing or email to your pharmacy location. We will address your concern within five (5) business days.

  • From time to time, it is necessary to substitute generic drugs for brand name drugs. This could occur due to your insurance company preferring the generic be dispensed or to reduce your copay.

If a substitution needs to be made, a team member will contact you prior to shipping the medication to inform you of the substitution.

Medication and Drug Disposal

Take any expired medication or medication you no longer need to an approved medication disposal location. Doing so offers several benefits, including:

  • Preventing accidental misuse, overdose or poisoning
  • Preventing any flushed medications from entering the public water system
  • Protecting your private health information that’s printed on medication packaging

There are several safe medication disposal sites located throughout the metro Atlanta area. Find the one nearest to you.
