Managing Prescription Drug Costs

Emory pharmacies focus on helping each person find the most affordable medications.

Our staff specializes in helping each person overcome financial hurdles to get the prescription medications they need. We help you navigate the process, including finding assistance options for covering your costs.

  • Drug manufacturers offer coupons to offset the cost of expensive brand-name medications. These coupons are used with insurance. They help pay part of the cost after you meet the deductible.
  • If you don’t have insurance or your insurance doesn’t cover medications, you may qualify for patient assistance.

These programs typically have income requirements. If you qualify, you can get medications at a reduced cost or for free.

Many pharmaceutical companies offer patient or prescription assistance programs. However, we may also help you find patient assistance programs through a health organization or state program.

  • Several online prescription programs offer discount cards. The prescription discount company negotiates lower bulk drug prices. Then, patients use their card to get the discounted price.
  • Our neighborhood pharmacies accept all major prescription insurance plans and will submit your insurance claim.

You’re responsible for covering co-payments or co-insurance before picking up your medicine.

Our team calculates your upfront costs so you’ll know how much you might owe. We accept all credit cards and Health Savings Account cards, but don’t take cash.

We work closely with you and your insurance company to:

    • Determine which medications your plan covers
    • Learn your plan’s requirements for generics versus brand-name medications (generics cost less but aren’t always covered)
    • Find alternatives for drugs not covered by your insurance plan
    • Find prescription assistance if your insurance doesn’t pay for the medications or you need help with co-payments
  • Your insurance company may require prior authorization. That means we must get their approval before filling your prescription.

To obtain prior authorization, your prescribing health care provider must complete detailed forms about your diagnosis.
