Program Director, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship
Heather Hipp, MD, is an associate professor in the Emory University School of Medicine and the program director for the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship. She is originally from Atlanta and graduated from Duke University with a double major in Biology and English. She then worked at the National Institutes of Health as an IRTA in Rockville, Maryland for two years studying genetic associations with addiction disorders and chronic pain. Following this basic science research, she matriculated at Emory University for her M.D and graduated cum laude. She stayed at Emory for her residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics, where she served as Administrative Chief Resident for her final year, and her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
She is actively involved in clinical care of her patients at Emory Reproductive Center and introduced the Reproductive Endocrine clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she works once a week. She currently serves as the subspecialty resident educator for the Emory Gynecology & Obstetrics residents for their REI rotations and is on the Resident Clinical Competency and Program Evaluation committees.
Dr. Hipp has won multiple clinician, teaching and patient satisfaction awards, including membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society as a resident and the Emory University School of Medicine Mentoring award in 2022. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She serves on the Medical Advisory Board for Team Maggie for a Cure, an Atlanta-based charitable foundation that provides support for women seeking fertility preservation prior to cancer treatment, and is the chair of the Education Committee for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine
Dr. Hipp's prior research has focused on women who are carriers for the fragile X mutation and their risk of Primary Ovarian Insufficiency. She is on the National Fragile X Foundation Scientific and Clinical Advisory Committee. She has also published work on national trends and outcomes of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) using data from the CDCl's National Assisted Reproductive Technology surveillance system and SART. Dr. Hipp has presented her work in multiple peer-reviewed journals and at national scientific and clinical meetings, including American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the International Fragile X Conference.
