Jim Toner, MD, PhD, is a nationally renowned infertility specialist who has been in active clinical practice since 1991. He has deep experience in all facets of reproductive medicine, including IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies. He also has served in multiple leadership positions for both of the national professional societies: the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Dr. Toner has published over 200 articles and abstracts, and is a highly sought speaker around the country, having given over 250 talks.
Originally from Philadelphia, Dr. Toner graduated from St Joseph’s College, then the University of Pennsylvania with his medical and doctorate degrees. He received clinical training at the Jones Institute in Norfolk, Virginia, where the first IVF birth in the US occurred. He subsequently joined their faculty and remained there for 10 years. During this time, he studied ovarian reserve, endometrial receptivity, and luteal support, and trained some of the field’s current leaders. He then went into private practice in Atlanta and has recently returned to academic medicine to teach the upcoming generation of caregivers. Dr. Toner takes special interest in advancing research involving increasing access to care by developing simpler and less expensive approaches to IVF.
Dr. Toner is a devoted husband and father to his 4 children and 4 step-children. He enjoys gardening, reading historical novels, and hosting his annual St Patrick’s Day celebration. He currently serves on the boards of Emory’s Aquinas Center, the Jones Foundation, and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
