About

Jonathan M. Morris, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in Musculoskeletal Oncology at Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center located within the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute facility in Brookhaven.. He serves on multiple committees at Emory University Hospital Midtown and serves as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Morris took an unusual route to becoming a physician. Originally, he completed his bachelor’s and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering. During his graduate studies, he focused on Biomechanics, and that was where his interest in medicine developed. Though he worked in engineering for several years after graduating, he couldn’t shake that interest. So, ultimately, he enrolled in and graduated from medical school at Tel Aviv University. That was followed by his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York and a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Morris’ knowledge of cancer treatment and the mechanics of the human body give him unique abilities to care for both adults and children with primary and metastatic cancer. He treats each patient’s tumor with the goal of controlling their disease and maximizing their function and mobility. As an active member of the Sarcoma Working Group at Winship Cancer Institute, he collaborates with soft tissue pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists, and interventional radiologists with expertise in the treatment of sarcomas to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient. Other areas of clinical focus include the treatment of patients with complex arthritis and infections and revision surgery for hip and knee joint replacement.

Often, Dr. Morris is the final stop for patients who have been referred from doctor to doctor. He sees himself as an educator and makes a special effort to ensure that patients understand their disease process, their treatment options and what those treatments entail. He and those he cares for make shared decisions and develop a plan for moving forward. It’s especially gratifying to him when they and their family members return to him after their surgery feeling relaxed after first arriving with a sense of dread. Because he often follows his patients for years, he develops strong relationships and finds them to be one of the most rewarding aspects of his job.

Growing up in Florida, Dr. Morris first came to Georgia to attend Georgia Tech. He’s happy to be living in the Atlanta area. Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and three children.

Dr experience was not the best- I came to him because of his knowledge on his bio and doing lots of research- while being extremely comfortable with my current Dr,I booked appt with this doctor to see if there was something unusual & unseen that we did not detect. I felt the doctor was not compassionate and even was poking fun of my concerns- he kept on telling me he would defer back to my doctor- which yes I understand but he could've been more understanding about the pain I was having and about why I would be seeing him. He took very little time articulating and had no desire to find the root cause of my pain- even though he did not agree with me getting a hip replacement, he still didn't want to find out what was causing my pain- I left thinking I should've just asked my amazing docto Whitfield if there was a chance this could be hip bone cancer causing pain..even though his medical experience listed did not state he had knowledge in that area. This doctor made me feel stupid for seeing him, and I'm glad I won't spend an hour driving to see him, waiting over 1,5 hours to see him again

I have recommended both Dr. Morris and the MSK facility to many of my friends having osteoarthritis issues. Everyone I have encountered there, so far, is excellent.

This doctor doesn't seem to care about me as a patient. My complaints about my pain were never addressed, though this is an issue I discussed prior to having surgery. I was also not informed the length of time it would take to recover. I fully regret the decision to go ahead with this doctor and facility for this surgery. I'm constantly in pain with no relief. I would like to be assigned a new doctor immediately.

1 out of 5 Reviewed on 2025-12-02

Not only did Dr. Morris tell me on my first visit he would figure out my problem when I asked him what we would do if there turned out to be no infection, he was basically speechless when he came in this time (alone). He said the knee replacement looked solid but my back was "wrecked". I asked if he could see soft tissues and such in a cat scan, and he said NO, just the implant and stability. Yet his after visit report stated "To Dr. Morris, he saw no signs of loosening, large fluid collection, OR SOFT TISSUE MASS". Both visit summaries and clinical notes are incorrect with important details. Additionally, he did not ask me if I had questions and offered NO SUGGESTIONS. I asked what further tests could be done. He said NONE. My husband asked about a nerve block and he said it couldn't hurt. However, I told Dr. Morris want to know the reason my knee replacement has gone down hill since the infection- root cause. He basically said I cannot help you. I was told he is the guy who you gi to when no other doctor can help. In my opinion and terrible, weird experience with him, he should go back to being an engineer. I typically do not make negative comments about physicians, but I am still so upset today as the moment I saw him yesterday.
