Dr. Zenobia Ofori-Dankwa is a Complex Benign Gynecologist (CBG) and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon (MIGS) who completed her fellowship training at Eastern Virginia Medical School / Old Dominion University. Her surgical expertise includes advanced laparoscopy, robotic surgery, and hysteroscopic procedures (including in the office and in the OR). She provides medical and surgical care for complex gynecologic conditions including advanced-stage endometriosis, uterine fibroids, uterine anomalies, chronic pelvic pain, and infertility. She is also an AIUM-certified sonologist who performs advanced gynecologic ultrasound to enhance diagnosis and optimize surgical planning.
Dr. Ofori-Dankwa is committed to expanding access to complex gynecologic care. Her prior experience as a generalist obstetrician-gynecologist at the University of Louisville provided a unique perspective on the challenges patients and providers face in managing these complex conditions. Her personal connection to Ghana has further strengthened her commitment to improving access to high-quality medical and surgical care both locally and globally.
As an academic clinician and surgical educator, Dr. Ofori-Dankwa is passionate about advancing surgical training through simulation, curriculum development, and evidence-based education. She has developed innovative educational initiatives, including laparoscopic skills competitions for residents focused on strengthening technical proficiency. She has also collaborated with Dr. Joseph Hudgens on a cost-analysis model supporting the integration of gynecologic ultrasound into CBG/MIGS fellowship practice, and with Dr. Jeffrey Woo on the development of engaging educational videos demonstrating complex surgical procedures.
Her research interests include optimizing patient outcomes and advancing surgical education. Her work includes investigating staged uterine artery embolization prior to hysterectomy for symptomatic uterine fibroids and identifying factors associated with successfully “matching” into the CBG/MIGS fellowship. Beyond her surgical research questions, she is also interested in how gender, societal influences, and crises shape leadership styles and outcomes.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ofori-Dankwa enjoys getting lost in a good book or trying a new fitness class. She values opportunities to experience new cultures, delicious food, and connecting with people.
