About Dr. Severinsky

Boris Severinsky, OD, FAAO, FBCLA, FSLS, joined Emory Eye Center’s faculty in March 2018. He is assistant professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of Service, Specialty Contact Lenses, Section of Optometry. He treats and fits adults and children who need specialty contact lenses.

Dr. Severinsky earned a bachelor of optometry degree from Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem, followed by a residency in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. He later earned a Master’s degree in optometry and vision science, also from Hadassah Academic College.

After moving to the U.S., Dr. Severinsky completed externships with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and Global Vision Rehabilitation Center in Miami. He then earned his Doctor of Optometry from New England College of Optometry in Boston.

His experience includes completing specialty contact lens fittings for patients with advanced corneal disease or congenital retinal conditions, following refractive surgery and corneal crosslinking, and as part of pediatric eye care. He has taught optometry students and ophthalmology residents about primary vision care, specialty contact lenses, refraction, and keratoconus lens fitting.

Dr. Severinsky has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed optometry and contact lens journals as well as a chapter about contact lenses in a major ophthalmology “Cornea” textbook. He is also an accomplished speaker and lectures nationally and internationally on various contact lens and cornea disease topics. In addition, he has served as a scientific journal reviewer for the Journal of Optometry, International Journal of Ophthalmology, and Contact Lens and Anterior Eye.

Dr. Severinsky is internationally recognized for his work on the development and design of scleral lenses after corneal transplant surgery and special “soft” scleral lenses for use shortly after corneal crosslinking procedures.
