Medicare Open Enrollment Can Be Confusing, Emory Healthcare Has Resources to Help

Date: Nov 3, 2022

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) occurs every year from October 15 through December 7. The Medicare AEP allows Medicare recipients to enroll or change their Medicare coverage. Choosing a Medicare plan has a significant impact on many lives. We want to help answer your questions and simplify the process.

Emory Healthcare has the resources to assist our patients, their families and caregivers in understanding the basics of Medicare and Medicare insurance, and to help them review Medicare coverage.

To support our patients and their families in understanding the different Medicare options, Emory Healthcare has partnered with MedicareCompareUSA* to provide a Medicare Insurance Helpline. The helpline offers the necessary tools and resources to help you make the best choice for you or your family member.

This helpline resource, which is free and without obligation, is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., by calling 855-256-1501; TTY 711.

Emory Healthcare’s Medicare helpline can assist patients with the following:

  • Comparing and enrolling in Medicare plans accepted by Emory Healthcare
  • Signing up to schedule a Medicare insurance consultation with a licensed and highly trained insurance agent
  • Reviewing your options during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 through December 7)

While the helpline provides an outstanding resource during the open enrollment, it will also be available throughout the year. A Medicare telephone consultation with a licensed and highly trained insurance agent is also an option to help our patients prepare for their Medicare eligibility as well as those already enrolled in Medicare but who need more information or assistance.

If you’re turning 65 and becoming eligible for Medicare, you have a 7-month period around the time of your birthday when you can choose your Medicare coverage. The timeframe includes:

  • Three months before your birthday
  • The month of your birthday
  • Three months after your birthday
