Our Wound and Hyperbaric Center location at Emory University Hospital Midtown provides specialized treatment for people suffering from chronic wounds, burns, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness (the bends), and more.

Wound care specialists

The wound care management team at Emory University Hospital Midtown is made up of a specialized group of wound care specialists and professionals that includes:

  • Physicians with advanced training in wound care management and hyperbaric medicine
  • Nursing staff trained in the care of chronic wounds, and some with ostomy care training
  • Technicians who assist nurses and physicians in such tasks as removing dressings and with hyperbaric treatments
  • Experienced staff to assist with scheduling appointments, navigating medical records and processing health insurance

Our wound care management staff has access to specialists to assist in your care. When appropriate, referrals are made to specialists to optimize your healing potential. We may ask your primary care provider to help coordinate these referrals.

As the patient, you are an important part of the wound care team. We will inform you of ways you can assist and be proactive in your healing process.

When to seek treatment for wounds

If you have a non-healing wound, speak to your primary care provider about a referral to our Wound and Hyperbaric Center location at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Our team can work with you to better understand chronic wounds, including their causes and treatments

We will work with you to:

  • Determine advanced therapies, which may include hyperbaric oxygen therapy
  • Devise a comprehensive, effective treatment plan tailored to your needs
  • Assess for ongoing treatments for chronic wounds by our skilled team of wound care specialists
  • Help oversee orders for supplies and other medical equipment
  • Providetraining so you and your caregivers can care for your wounds at home confidently and effectively
  • Provide educational materials and resources related to prevention, nutrition, hygiene and other key chronic wound care topics to set you up for healing success 
  • Communicate regularly so that you and your primary care provider stay informed and up-to-date on treatments and healing progress

If you have a current wound and are concerned about infection, have a fever, smell a foul odor, experience increased drainage or increased pain, or feel coolness or heat at the site of the wound, we recommend you seek medical attention immediately.

Seek immediate care at the Emergency Department for new burn wounds or deep traumatic wounds.
