Two women greeting in a professional environment

Administrative Fellowship

Administrative Fellowship Program

The Emory Healthcare Administrative Fellowship Program is a two-year, full-time accelerated pathway to senior leadership for emerging healthcare operational leaders aspiring to lead hospitals, service lines, and serve as future executive administrators within academic healthcare. Through hands-on rotations, high-impact operational projects, and direct partnership with senior leaders, Fellows develop the leadership capability, business acumen, and cross-functional experience needed to transition into roles such as Operations Manager, Business Manager, Program Manager, or Project Manager upon program completion.

Throughout the program, Fellows build the operational expertise, strategic perspective, professional network, and leadership competencies needed to continue advancing into future leadership roles across Emory Healthcare.

Why Fellows choose Emory

The opportunity to partner with senior operational leaders and mentors while building operational, strategic, and financial leadership skills through hands-on projects, cross-functional initiatives, executive exposure, and immersive experiences designed to prepare Fellows for long-term leadership growth within Emory Healthcare.

Fellowship Structure

Fellows progress through a series of structured rotations across key areas of the health system, designed to build both breadth and depth of experience.

The first four rotations are four-month breadth experiences where fellows are immersed in their assigned areas, participating in leadership meetings and contributing to key projects. Core rotations include hospital and clinical operations, along with electives in shared services such as finance and system-level project management. Fellows may also explore additional areas of interest through a 20% model, supporting a secondary project while completing their primary rotation.

The final 6–8 month rotation allows fellows to deepen their expertise in a selected focus area aligning with their long-term career goals.

Testimonials

William A. Bornstein, MD, Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer, Emory Healthcare
"The Emory Healthcare Administrative Fellowship Program provides an incomparable opportunity for fellows to get hands-on leadership experience in a complex, integrated delivery system and top tier academic medical center. A major part of the learning is achieved through doing projects, which contribute immensely to the professional development of the fellow and to the quality of care we deliver."

Donald Brunn, Senior Vice President, Network Development, Emory Healthcare
"The experience helps each fellow make a better career choice for the all-important "first job" decision."

Patrick Hammond, Chief Executive Officer, Emory Healthcare Network and Chief Market Services Officer, Emory Healthcare
"As a 14-year employee of Emory Healthcare, I have personally experienced the value of Emory Healthcare's Administrative Fellowship Program both as a young graduate with little to no work experience and as a hiring executive director. I started my health care career as an administrative resident at Emory Crawford Long Hospital. That experience continues to be a tremendous asset to me today because it provided broad exposure to all aspects of the health care delivery system that only an integrated delivery system like Emory Healthcare can provide."
