Treatments and Services

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Treatments

Our nationally renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeons use innovative diagnostic, inpatient and outpatient services and treatments to manage conditions and injuries that affect the tissues and bones of the face and mouth.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Surgery

We perform more TMJ surgeries than any other program in the U.S., right here in Atlanta. Our team offers advanced and minimally invasive procedures, including total joint replacement of the jaw to reduce pain and increase range of motion.

Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery

Our pediatric experts repair cleft lip and palate conditions and other disorders that affect the bones and tissues of the face and head. The procedures can improve your child’s breathing and their ability to eat, drink and swallow. In some cases, we create a reconstructive care plan based on your child’s age.

Sleep Apnea Surgery

Our experts partner with Atlanta’s sleep physicians so you can sleep properly. We remove obstructions like the adenoids or uvula that cause you to stop breathing for short periods of time while sleeping. Sleep apnea surgery reduces your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and other conditions.

Dentoalveolar Surgery and Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth removal is the most common dentoalveolar surgery we perform. Our team of experts also provides biopsies and treatments to manage conditions that affect teeth and gums.

Facial and Jaw Reconstruction

We repair facial and jawbone conditions, including congenital abnormalities and the removal of cysts and tumors. We also repair damage from trauma. We use bone grafts and other techniques to restore function and appearance. When possible, we complete reconstruction at the same time as treatment.

Orthognathic Surgery

We use corrective surgery to improve facial symmetry and align the teeth for a healthy bite. Our experts use tiny titanium plates and screws to secure the facial bones. We treat jawbone conditions that affect chewing, jaw function and speaking.

Cancer Surgery

We use the latest surgical techniques and medicines to treat cancer of the mouth, jaws and face. We are also able to replace the soft tissues, jaw bones and teeth to allow patients to resume a normal life after surgery.

Evaluation and Surgical Management of Nerve Injuries

Removal of the third molars may damage branches of the trigeminal nerve in the face. This causes a numb or painful lip or tongue. Oral cancer, dental numbing injections, insertion of a breathing tube, surgical procedures and trauma can also injure the nerve. We use specific procedures to reduce numbness and pain.

Management of Infections and Cancers of the Gums, Mouth and Tongue

We use advanced procedures to treat cancers, cysts, infections and ulcers that form in the mouth, on the gums and tongue, and on the lining of the lips and cheeks.

Maxillofacial Trauma Surgery

We specialize in the treatment of facial and jaw fractures and injuries to facial and mouth tissues and teeth. If facial scars occur after treatment, we provide care to improve appearance.

Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Our specially trained pediatric surgeons treat and manage abnormalities, cancers, infections and injuries to the facial bones, jaw and tissues of the mouth. We provide care at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Egleston.

Dental Implants

We use corrective surgery to improve facial symmetry and align the teeth for a healthy bite. Our experts use tiny titanium plates and screws to secure the facial bones. We treat jawbone conditions that affect chewing, jaw function and speaking.

Cancer Surgery

We use the latest surgical techniques and medicines to treat cancer of the mouth, jaws and face. We are also able to replace the soft tissues, jaw bones and teeth to allow patients to resume a normal life after surgery.

Sometimes the facial bones or jaw are shaped in a way that will not accept dental implants. Our specialists use reconstructive surgery to allow the use of implants. Procedures we offer include:

  • Jaw (ridge) augmentation. We use a bone graft to add height or widen the ridge of the gum.
  • Sinus lift procedure. We place bone grafts on the sinus floor and implants at the back of the upper jaw. This raises the sinus membrane.

IV Sedation and General Anesthesia

When you receive office-based surgery, we ensure your emotional and physical comfort. Our surgeons are specially trained to provide intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia.

Patients are often scared or fearful when they need surgery. We provide a warm and friendly environment to help our patients feel relaxed. There are several ways that we can make your experience more pleasant, whether you choose to be awake or asleep during your surgery. These include:

  • Using a topical gel to numb your gums before we give you any injections.
  • Providing the option of laughing gas before and during your procedure to reduce anxiety and pain throughout the surgery.
  • Providing the option to be put to sleep. We will place a small needle in a vein in your hand/arm. We are then able to give you several medications through the needle that will allow you to go to sleep during the surgery.

Ensuring safety and providing a pleasant experience is our goal and mission. Please feel free to discuss with your doctor how we can make your visit with us as pleasant as possible
