UnitedHealthcare Termination FAQs

Effective September 1, 2026, UnitedHealthcare’s contract with Emory Houston Healthcare facilities will be terminated, specifically for Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Exchange plans. Below are some FAQs for providers and patients related to the changes:

FAQs for Commercial Coverage 
  • You received this notice because our records show that you are currently enrolled in, or have recently been covered by, a UnitedHealthcare Commercial plan. Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County will no longer be in-network with UnitedHealthcare Commercial as of September 1, 2026.

  • UnitedHealthcare Commercial plan will be out-of-network for Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County at the following locations:

  • After August 31, 2026, your care will be considered out-of-network at Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County.

  • Once Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County become out-of-network for UnitedHealthcare Commercial, your costs for care may increase, and some services may not be covered. If you continue to use Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County for your healthcare, you may need to receive an authorization from your health plan before your visit. We recommend you review your plan’s out-of-network benefits or refer to United Healthcare’s provider directory to locate in-network providers.

  • No, Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County are the only locations that will be affected by this upcoming termination. Patients may continue to be seen at other Emory Healthcare facilities and physician locations as in-network with UnitedHealthcare Commercial Plans.

  • You may visit Emory Healthcare’s website at emoryhealthcare.org/insurance for a list of accepted plans. 

  • Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County will be out-of-network with UnitedHealthcare Commercial starting September 1, 2026. Your appointment may be subject to out-of-network benefit rules. We recommend you contact UnitedHealthcare to locate an in-network option or Emory Healthcare to reschedule your appointment at 404-778-7777.

FAQs for Medicare Advantage Coverage 
  • You are receiving this notice because our records show that you are currently enrolled in, or have recently been covered by, a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan. Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County will no longer be in-network with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage starting January 1, 2027.

  • UnitedHealthcare Commercial plan will be out-of-network for Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County at the following locations:

  • There will be no changes to our participation in UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage for the remainder of 2026. You may continue to receive care at Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County through December 31, 2026, which will be considered in-network. After December 31, 2026, your care will be considered out-of-network.

  • Once Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County become out of network for UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage, your costs for care may increase, and some services may not be covered. If you continue to use Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County for your healthcare after December 31, 2026, you need an authorization from your health plan prior to your visit, or it will be considered out of network. Please refer to United Healthcare’s provider directory for in network providers.

  • Medicare’s open enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, 2026.[CN2.1][YHG2.2] During this time, you can review and change your Medicare Advantage plan. For uninterrupted access to Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County, please note that Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County participate with the following Medicare Advantage plans for January 1, 2027:

    • Aetna Medicare Advantage
    • Anthem Medicare Advantage
    • HealthSpring Medicare Advantage
    • Humana Medicare Advantage
    • WellCare Medicare Advantage
  • You can visit Emory Healthcare’s website at emoryhealthcare.org/insurance for a list of accepted plans. Beginning on October 1, you may also contact the MedicareCompare USA support center to speak with a licensed insurance agent for personalized assistance in comparing Medicare insurance options for 2027.

  • Beginning on October 1, MedicareCompareUSA, a licensed insurance agency, will be offering no-cost and no-obligation support to help you understand your Medicare insurance options and find plans accepted by Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County for 2027. You can speak with a licensed agent by calling (855) 256-1501, TTY 711 (Mon-Fri; 9am-8pm). 

  • Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County will be out of network with UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage as of January 1, 2027, therefore, your appointment will be subject to out-of-network coverage rules. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to find an in-network option or Emory Healthcare to reschedule your appointment at 404-778-7777.

  • Yes, currently none of Emory hospitals and Emory physicians currently participate with United Healthcare Compass Exchange plan. Please refer to United Healthcare Compass provider directory to locate in-network providers.

  • Emory Healthcare facilities in Houston County will be out-of-network with UnitedHealthcare Exchange starting September 1, 2026. Your appointment may be subject to out-of-network coverage rules.   • Open enrollment will begin on October 19, 2026 and continue through December 15, 2026. You can start comparing plans on October 23, 2026. Please refer to georgiaaccess.gov to review available plans and make your selection. Plans will become active on January 1, 2027.
